Premarital counseling in Denver, CO & online
Building a life together.
Starting a life together is exciting, and it also comes with real complexity. Premarital counseling is an opportunity to be intentional about the kind of relationship you want to build, before patterns become harder to shift.
Rather than waiting for problems to arise, this work is about creating a strong foundation. It gives you space to slow down, have meaningful conversations, and develop shared understanding around the areas that matter most in long-term relationships.
My approach
My approach to premarital counseling is structured and collaborative. I guide couples through a series of intentional conversations designed to help you better understand yourselves and each other. These are not surface-level check-ins, but deeper explorations of how you relate, communicate, and navigate challenges together.
We focus on core areas that shape long-term partnership. This includes connection and how to maintain it over time, communication styles, and how to approach conflict in a way that strengthens rather than erodes the relationship. We also explore sexual intimacy, finances, and the division of labor, topics that often carry unspoken expectations.
Depending on your needs, we can also spend time on additional areas such as parenting, navigating mental health challenges, and managing relationships with extended family. The goal is not to cover everything perfectly, but to build the skills and awareness to handle these areas together as they arise.
Throughout the process, I offer guidance, frameworks, and exercises to help you move from discussion into real understanding. The goal is to help you create a relationship that feels intentional, aligned, and supportive for both partners.
Is this right for us?
Premarital counseling may be a good fit if you are engaged, planning a long-term commitment, or simply wanting to be more intentional about your relationship before taking the next step.
You do not need to be experiencing problems to benefit from this work. Many couples come in feeling strong and connected, but wanting to deepen their understanding and build tools for the future.
It can also be especially helpful if there are areas you have not fully talked through yet, or if certain topics feel difficult to navigate on your own.
This process works best when both partners are open to reflection, honest conversation, and engaging with the structure of the work.
What to expect
Premarital counseling is typically more structured than ongoing therapy. Sessions are focused around specific topics, with guided conversations and exercises designed to help you explore each area in depth.
You can expect to be actively engaged in sessions, rather than just talking generally about your relationship. I will help facilitate conversations, ask questions that deepen understanding, and introduce frameworks to support how you communicate and problem-solve together.
There is often homework between sessions. This may include continuing conversations, reflecting on prompts, or practicing specific skills. The goal is to help you integrate what you are learning into your day-to-day relationship.
By the end of the process, most couples leave with a clearer sense of how they function together, how to navigate challenges, and how to intentionally maintain connection over time.
