Therapy for anxiety in Denver, CO & online

Managing anxiety with care.

Anxiety is your body and nervous system trying to protect you. It shows up as alarm bells ringing—sometimes appropriately, and sometimes even when there is no clear danger present. It can feel like racing thoughts, a tight chest, restlessness, or a constant sense of unease. Over time, anxiety can begin to shape your choices, your relationships, and how you move through your day.

Anxiety therapy is a space to better understand what your system is responding to, and to change your relationship with those responses so they no longer control your life.

My approach

My approach to anxiety is grounded in mindful self-compassion. Rather than fighting or trying to eliminate anxiety, we work on responding to it with awareness, curiosity, and care. When your system is activated, it does not need criticism or pressure, it needs support. Learning how to relate to yourself with compassion can reduce the intensity of anxiety and create more space to respond intentionally.

A key part of our work is building distress tolerance. Anxiety often pushes us toward avoidance or quick relief, even when those choices do not serve us in the long run. Together, we work on developing the ability to tolerate uncomfortable thoughts and feelings without being driven by them. This allows you to stay present and make choices that are aligned with your values, even in the presence of anxiety.

Over time, the goal is not to eliminate anxiety completely, but to change how you experience it. Instead of feeling overwhelmed or controlled by it, you begin to recognize it as a signal—one that you can respond to with greater flexibility, clarity, and self-trust.

Is this right for me?

Anxiety therapy may be a good fit if you feel stuck in cycles of worry, overthinking, or physical tension. You might notice that your mind jumps to worst-case scenarios, or that it is difficult to relax even when things seem okay.

You may also find yourself avoiding situations, conversations, or decisions because they feel overwhelming. Or you might push through anxiety at the cost of feeling exhausted, disconnected, or burned out.

This approach is especially helpful if you are interested in building a different relationship with anxiety, rather than trying to get rid of it entirely. It can also be a good fit if you want practical tools alongside deeper emotional work.

If you are unsure, we can use a consultation to explore what you are experiencing and whether this approach feels like a good match.

What to expect

In our early sessions, we will focus on understanding how anxiety shows up for you, both in your body and in your thoughts. We will explore patterns, triggers, and the ways anxiety may be influencing your behavior.

You can expect a balance of insight and skill-building. We will practice tools that help you stay grounded in the moment, respond to anxiety with self-compassion, and tolerate distress without immediately trying to escape it.

Sessions are collaborative and paced intentionally. You will not be pushed to confront more than you feel ready for. Instead, we build capacity over time, so that you feel more steady and confident in your ability to navigate difficult internal experiences.

As therapy progresses, many people notice they feel less reactive, more present, and more able to make choices that reflect what actually matters to them.
