Discernment counseling for couples in Denver, CO & online

Clarity for the path ahead.

Not every relationship challenge is about improving communication or deepening connection. Sometimes, couples reach a point where the core question becomes whether to stay together or separate.

Discernment counseling is a structured process designed to help you make that decision with clarity and intention, rather than in the midst of ongoing conflict or uncertainty.

My approach

My approach focuses on understanding what is happening in the relationship and identifying what would need to meaningfully change in order for the relationship to continue in a healthy way. This includes looking at patterns, areas of disconnection, and the impact each partner is having on the dynamic.

From there, we explore whether those changes are both desired and realistic. It is one thing to name what needs to shift, and another to assess whether both partners are willing and able to do that work.

This process is not about forcing a specific outcome. It is about helping you arrive at a decision that is thoughtful, grounded, and aligned with what each of you truly wants moving forward.

Is this right for us?

Discernment counseling may be a good fit if you feel stuck between staying and leaving, or if one partner is more certain than the other about wanting to end the relationship.

You might be experiencing ongoing conflict, disconnection, or a loss of trust that has led to uncertainty about the future. Or you may have already tried couples therapy and still feel unsure about whether the relationship can or should continue.

This process is designed for couples who want clarity, even if that clarity is difficult.

What to expect

Discernment counseling is typically shorter-term and more structured than ongoing couples therapy. Sessions are focused on understanding the relationship, clarifying each partner’s perspective, and identifying what would need to change.

At times, we may meet together, and at times I may speak with each partner individually within the session. This allows space for honest reflection while still maintaining a shared process.

You can expect direct, thoughtful conversations about the state of the relationship, without pressure to immediately commit to a path forward.

By the end of the process, the goal is for both partners to have a clearer understanding of whether to continue the relationship with intention or to begin the process of separation.
